Hi, friends! Mochi here, your paw-some travel buddy. I just got back from an amazing European tour through Germany, France, Italy, and Switzerland, and I’m here to spill the kibble on how to make travel a breeze for your pup (and your hoomans!). Here’s everything I learned along the way!
Step 1: Getting Comfy in My Carrier 🧳
Before my trip, my hooman got me a cozy carrier and let me explore it. I practiced hanging out in there, got yummy treats while I was inside, and even took little naps. We started with a few minutes and worked up to longer stays. I’m glad I got used to it because I had to stay in the carrier for most of the trip!
Mochi’s Travel Tip: Start training with the carrier early. Spend some time every day chilling in it with treats and a favorite toy so it feels like a safe little den.
Step 2: Packing My Doggy Essentials 🐶✈️
Packing was fun! My hooman made sure we had my favorite snacks, my meds, and a first-aid kit just in case. (You never know when you might eat something funny or get a boo-boo!) They also packed cleaning supplies—because, let’s be real, some places in Europe are a bit dirty!
Mochi’s Travel Tip: Bring extra cleaning supplies and double-check if you can take food into the country. My treats came in handy for the plane ride, but some places have rules about outside food.
Step 3: Getting My Paperwork Done (Boring but Necessary!) 📝
I needed a bunch of papers to travel, like my rabies vaccine certificate, an EU health certificate, and an export licence from Singapore. My hooman also got ready for when we’d come back, with a rabies blood test and an import licence. It was a lot of work, but we passed with flying colors!
Mochi’s Travel Tip: Make sure your hoomans handle all this paperwork way in advance, especially if you're going somewhere new.
Step 4: Boarding the Plane! 🛫
My hooman booked our flights with Lufthansa. There’s a limit on the number of pets they allow in the cabin, so it’s best to book early. Luckily, they let me come along in my carrier in economy class! I stayed in the carrier the whole time, which was okay since I practiced so much.
Mochi’s Travel Tip: Some airlines don’t allow pets in certain classes, so make sure your hooman checks ahead! Most carriers have an 8 kg weight limit for pets and carrier combined, so I had to make sure I stayed in tip-top shape.
Step 5: Exploring Europe! 🌍
When we landed in Germany, we had to go through a special line where they checked my documents. After that, I was ready to hit the ground running!
Europe is super pet-friendly! We traveled by car, train, and even public transport, and everyone welcomed me with open arms. From dining inside restaurants to wandering through malls, I was allowed everywhere. Switzerland was my favorite—so clean and green!
Mochi’s Travel Tip: Look for pet-friendly hotels and restaurants. Most places we stayed in had filters for pet-friendly spots, so it was easy to find the best spots!
Step 6: Staying Cozy in Rainy Weather 🌧️
We ran into some rainy days, so my hooman popped me into the carrier to keep me dry. I didn’t mind as long as I was with them! And for any tummy aches, we had a few meds on hand (just in case).
Mochi’s Travel Tip: Make sure to pack a few rainy-day essentials, like a carrier cover. And keep a first-aid kit for those little emergencies!
Step 7: Returning to Singapore 🇸🇬
After an amazing adventure, it was time to go home. When we landed, I had to go to the Lost & Found counter, where they took me to CAPQ for a check-up. My hooman had all the paperwork ready, so I got cleared quickly.
Mochi’s Travel Tip: If you’re traveling to different countries, look into quarantine requirements, as some places have different rules. Always be prepared for a little wait!
Mochi’s Final Travel Wisdom 🐾
Traveling with your hooman is amazing, but it’s important that they know you’re ready for it. I’m usually calm and don’t mind new sounds or sights, so it was easy for me to adjust. But if your pup is more sensitive, maybe practice together a bit more before heading off on an adventure. And do your homework! Google was our best friend for finding pet-friendly places, checking local rules, and discovering fun spots.
